Otter Ferry Seafish Ltd in partnership with Lakeland Marine Farms have successfully raised the finance for a project to establish the hatchery protocols for the culture of wrasse.

The wrasse produced will be used as a biological control for sea lice in the local salmon farms. Sea lice is the biggest single health environment issue facing the salmon sector. It costs the Scottish industry an estimated £50 million per year.

Based and working as part of the marine hatchery team at Otter Ferry on the West of Scotland, the successful applicant will already have experienced in the culture of other marine species. He or she will be willing to travel and liaise with research organisations and others working in the same field both at home and abroad. The project leader will be self-motivated and responsible for all aspects of the project; from the capture and conditioning of broodstock to the planning and the adaptation of the extensive and intensive hatchery facilities.

The project leader will report to the sponsors of the project on a quarterly basis. An attractive salary and accommodation package is on offer and will be related to the experience of the candidate. Starting date asap.
